The -F denotes Flat(handle)bars; the -P denotes Pullback(handle)bars. Minor changes with the two bars include differences in brake cable length, clutch cable length, and handlebar mount height. Suzuki produced these two models of the Savage in the eighties expecting to sell a great number of them thinking that there would be a greater appeal in the models. Some of us Savage riders think the move (by Suzuki) was a little ahead of its time. I, along with others on this site have either inquired and/or switched to flat bars on our newer model Savages; this can be due to comfort issues, the looks of the bike among other rider idiosyncrisies.
